2015 Perth Cup to figure for Global Flirt

November 26th, 2014

Returning to competitive form when charging home to win the Listed Tattersall’s Cup (2100m) with relative ease last weekend, trainer Justin Warwick has revealed the Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) on January 1st is likely to figure as the next major target for classy stayer Global Flirt.

Jumping from the gates well, jockey William White settled Global Flirt in prime position on the heels of the Tattersall’s Cup’s early leaders; receiving an ideal run in transit before extending in the final straight to find the line a length in the clear of closest rival Son Of Something.

Thrilled with the form displayed by the Mcflirt gelding over the days following his Tattersall’s Cup triumph, Warwick outlined the Listed Towton Cup (2200m) on Kingston Town Classic Day (December 6th) as the likely next point of call for Global Flirt ahead of the 2015 Perth Cup.

“He has pulled up super,” Warwick told Perth Racing.

“Not a lot worries him, so he will now continue to the Queens Cup.

“We will press on to the Perth Cup; he’s run a third and a sixth in the race before.”

Securing several impressive results over a long and busy 24 race preparation beginning in the 2013 autumn and continuing through this the autumn of this year, Global Flirt finished a credible third in the Listed Grandstand Cup (1400m) first-up in April and continued to work towards back-to-back fifth place finishes in the Tattersall’s Cup and Towton Cup before placing sixth in the Perth Cup.

Returning to the paddock after running third in this year’s Grandstand Cup and placing eighth in both the Listed Pinjarra Cup (2300m) and Listed York Stakes (1600m), Global Flirt was unable to make much of an impact over his first three starts this time in; running eleventh in the Listed Hannans Handicap (1400m), seventh in a minor over 1650m on September 27th and 14th in the Listed Ascot Cup (1800m) leading into his Tattersall’s Cup triumph.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2015 Perth Cup is due to be confirmed and released on December 27th.
