Pop Culture On Track For 2014 Perth Cup Win

December 19th, 2013

Pop Culture is set to contest the Group 2 Perth Cup at Ascot Racecourse on January 1, 2014.

The five-year-old won her most recent start in the $60,000 ATA Handicap at Ascot on December 18, 2013, and will be out to replicate that performance when she lines up for the Perth Cup.

Trainer Colin Webster feels that her most recent result proves that she will be a force to be reckoned with come the 2014 Perth Cup on New Years Day.

“I’m quite sure Pop Culture can improve just a little more and hopefully she’ll be at her top for the big day,” Webster said.

Pop Culture will be ridden by jockey Troy Turner in the 2014 Perth Cup, who steered her to victory in the ATA Handicap.

“The 2400 is really going to suit her. He (Turner) made his move at the right time because she’s a dour stayer,” said Webster.

“She’s a great mare. She’s a real stable favourite.”

Webster is still over the moon with her last start win in the ATA Handicap, due to his affiliation with the race.

The Perth trainer is the Australian Trainers’ Association federal executive officer and has been for the past 48 years.

“I’ve been presenting this trophy for about 25 years and this is my first runner,” Webster said.

Jockey Troy Turner supports Webster’s belief that Pop Culture will be at her best for the 2014 Perth Cup.

“She’s hit form at the right time,” Turner said.

Pop Culture has won eight of her 26 race starts and has earned more than $513,000 in prize money.
