Green Light Given For Cantonese’s 2013 Perth Cup Campaign

December 21st, 2012

Cantonese has managed to get himself a flight to Perth, where he currently awaits a run in the Group 1 Perth Cup on January 1, 2013.

The five-year-old was originally not assured of travel arrangements to Western Australia from his home stable in Sydney.

However, a flight was found and Cantonese appears to be in top form going into the 2013 Perth Cup.

Trainer Bjorn Baker confirmed that the horse had arrived in Perth earlier today.

“He’s in Perth now and appears to have travelled over pretty well this morning,” Baker said.

While he believes Cantonese has what it takes to win the 2012 Perth Cup, Baker is just happy to have the experience of taking a horse west for the Cup.

“We’ll have some fun over there – win, lose or draw,” Baker said.

“It will be a good experience.”

Cantonese has won seven of his 21 race starts and has earned more than $270,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

The Redoute’s Choice gelding won his last start in the Listed Christmas Cup at Rosehill on December 15, 2012, by an incredible six lengths.

The galloper will be out to replicate that performance when he runs in the 2013 Perth Cup at Ascot on New Year’s Day.
