Cantonese On Standby For Flight Ahead Of 2012 Perth Cup

December 19th, 2012

Cantonese is looking to continue his impressive preparation with a trip to Western Australia to compete in the Group 1 Perth Cup on January 1, 2013.

The five-year-old won his last start in the Listed Christmas Cup at Rosehill Racecourse on December 15, 2012, and will be out to continue his winning ways in the 2012 Perth Cup.

The only thing that stands in his way is the undetermined flight plans to Perth, which are still up in the air.

Perth Racing’s Marty Young confirmed that Cantonese is not yet assured of getting a flight across to the West from his home town of Sydney.

“Cantonese is an eighty per cent chance of getting a flight,” Young said.

“But, if for some reason the flight doesn’t go, then the horse won’t be coming across because there won’t be another one to get him here in time.”

Trainer Bjorn Baker feels that should he make it to Perth, Cantonese would be hard to beat in the 2012 Perth Cup.

“He is going super,” he said. “The biggest issue for us is the logistics of getting him across to Perth.

“He’s been up a long time, but he keeps raising the bar each time he steps out. It is very hard to spell them when they are racing this well.

“He has an easy time between races and at Warwick Farm we have river trails so you can get them off the track

Cantonese has won seven of his 21 race starts and has earned more than $270,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.
