Doctor Fremantle Prepares For 2012 Perth Cup Start

December 13th, 2012

Doctor Fremantle will look to claim a win at Flemington Racecourse this weekend as he makes his way towards the 2013 Perth Cup on January 1.

The eight-year-old will be running in the $100,000 Spotless Handicap on Saturday, where he will be out to claim a well-deserved victory.

Doctor Fremantle has not won a race since 2009, when he was trained by Michael Stoute in Great Britain.

Current trainer Sam Prichard-Gordon is hopeful that Doctor Fremantle can show the same amount of acceleration that was present in the Listed Ballarat Cup last start, where he placed fourth.

“He let down with an extended burst of acceleration which I haven’t seen in him since arriving in Australasia so that’s the reason why we’re pressing on and quite excited about Saturday,” Pritchard-Gordon said.

“He was the only horse at Ballarat to make up ground down the middle on the day.

“Taking ground off Exceptionally and making her look as though she doesn’t have a turn of foot is something that no other horse has done this spring.

“Providing the pace is on and he gets out at the right time and he wants to try on the day he’s every chance of winning.

“There must be something there that I’m doing that he’s really cottoned on to.

“He’s a very happy horse at the moment.”
