Macedonian Targets 2013 Perth Cup

December 12th, 2012

The 2013 Perth Cup has attracted the likes of Peter Moody’s Macedonian for the $500,000 event on New Year’s Day.

The seven-year-old has won five of his 31 race starts and has earned more than $415,000 in prize money during his horse racing career.

Macedonian placed fifth in his most recent start in the $100,000 The CFV Great Strides Handicap at Caulfield Racecourse on December 1, 2012.

He will now make the trip west for the first time in his career, where he will attempt to win his first Group 1 race.

While he is a regular in Group races back home on the east coast, thus far a Group win has evaded him.

RWWA racing manager and chief handicapper, David Hunter, was thrilled that Moody had nominated Macedonian for the 2013 Perth Cup on January 1.

“We’re delighted to have a stayer with Macedonian’s credentials in the cup,” Hunter said.

“In addition to winning the Sandown Cup, he’s been an Adelaide Cup third placegetter.

“Macedonian confirmed his class when runner-up in The Lexus at Flemington’s spring carnival last year.

“There was a lot of merit in his performances to finish fifth in a Sydney Cup and eighth in a Caulfield Cup.”

Macedonian will first run in the $100,000 Spotless Handicap at Flemington Racecourse this weekend before travelling to Perth for the Cup, where he will be chasing his first race win since 2010.
