Simon Miller is looking towards four-year-old gelding Lopov to win him the Group 2 Perth Cup at Ascot on December 31, 2011.
Lopov will be first up in the race after having a two month break following his last start in The Lavazza Long Black Handicap at Flemington on November 1.
Miller has acquired Lopov from Victoira, where he was trained by Danny O’Brien.
The Savabeel gelding has had 22 starts in Victoria and has won five races and accrued more than $150,000 in prize money.
Miller believes Lopov will be fit enough to win the 2011 Perth Cup, despite having an eight week freshen up prior to the race.
“He was going to run in the Sandown Cup over 3200m earlier this month, so he is already rock-hard fit,” Miller said.
“I find when you travel horses interstate or change their environment they fly first-up.
“I’ve spoken to the owners and they have agreed to it.”
Lopov’s finished ninth at his last start on Melbourne Cup day, which Miller attributes to an unfortunate track position.
“He failed Melbourne Cup day because being on the fence was off,” Miller said.
Miller is also considering whether to send Commands gelding Senhor Da Gama to the 2011 Perth Cup.
Senhor Da Gama has had a total of seven starts this campaign.
“Senhor Da Gama is the ideal Perth Cup horse but he has been up a long time.
“He can have another run and if he comes through it, he’ll head to the cup.”
The five-year-old won his last start at Ascot on November 26, 2011, and appears to be at the top of his game despite his lengthy preparation.
