Perth Cup 2012 To Be Held On New Years Eve 2011

November 21st, 2011

The 2011 Perth Cup’s date has been changed from New Year’s Day to New Year’s Eve as of the 2011-2012 racing season, causing two Perth Cups to be run in the same calendar year.

Lords Ransom is expected to run in this year’s Group 2 Perth Cup, which will be held on December 31, 2011.

Eight-year-old Lords Ransom won the 2010  edition of the Perth Cup.

Lords Ransom has failed to finish better than seventh in his three runs so far this preparation, however, is still competing over distances that appear too short for him.

The Jeune gelding finished ninth of 16 in the Group 1 Railway Stakes last Saturday, in what was just his third race since returning to the racetrack for the first time in 13 months.

Trainer Grant Williams insists Lords Ransom is back to his pre-injury self ahead of the 2011 Perth Cup.

“His fitness is fine now,” Williams said.

“It’s just a matter of getting the races into him.”

Lords Ransom has won nine of his 22 race starts and has earned close to $700,000 in prize money heading into his 2011 Perth Cup run.
