The $400,000 Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m) brings the 2010-11 Ascot Summer Racing Carnival to a close and offers punters one of the best betting markets of the year.

After a solid last-start victory in the W.A. St Leger, Testa Rossa four-year-old Ranger has opened as the $7.50 favourite to win the 2011 Perth Cup and cap off an impressive season.

The other top pick of the Perth Cup entries is Darren Mcauliffe’s in-form mare Impressive Jeuney, paying around $8 after an eye-catching performance finishing second to Playing God in the Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot on December 4.

Punters have also been getting behind the likes of eight-year-old Capecover, the Chris Waller-trained Beijing Boy and Neville Parnham’s local champ God Has Spoken in the Perth Cup futures betting.

The ante-post Perth Cup odds give punters the chance to lock in generous prices on their favourites before the final field for the 2011 Perth Cup is released on December 27.

Excellent value roughies that could rise and cause an upset on January 1, 2011 include Marooned gelding Brandy Lane at a quote of $26 who took out the G.A. Towton Cup (2200m) last start, and in-form three-year-old Hoegaarden paying a very generous $41, the up-and-coming son of Flying Spur yet to finish out of the money in their six career starts.
